Religious Education

At Corpus, we follow the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education Programme which is followed from Year 3 through to Year 6. This programme was developed to respond to the needs of children today in their faith journey, to enable them to grow in their religious literacy and understanding in a way that is coherent with current educational principles. The programme integrates the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Religious Education Curriculum Directory.

At the heart of the programme is the mystery of God’s self-revelation of love through Jesus Christ. Come and See gives pupils the opportunity to explore the mystery of faith through Scripture and Tradition.

From September 2025, Religious Education will be taught using a new Catholic RE Programme called 'Lighting the Path' publish by Oxford University Press and approved by the Archdiocese of Southwark.  The implementation of the new programme will be phased over the next two academic years.

Children in the Early Years and Key Stage One will be taught using Lighting the Path from September 2025, followed by all Key Stage Two classes in September 2026.

Lighting the Path follows a spiral curriculum which means that each year group follows the same broad theme, but the content differs depending on the age of the pupils.

We enrich the programme along with PSHE and RSE which allows our experiences and lessons to be more creative and tailored to our children. It also allows for us to further challenge and question our children on their understandings and opinions. It provides opportunities for celebration, prayer and reflection. Children will be highly engaged in RE lessons through the use of a variety of sources such as religious stories, scripture, religious artwork, songs, drama, music, dance and religious signs and symbols.

Opportunities are provided for children to experience learning beyond the classroom.  The use of visits and visitors in school enhance the RE curriculum.

Religious Education

Links are made with the children's own experience and with universal experience. It will enable them to explore the beliefs, values and way of life of the Catholic tradition and other faith traditions.
