Our Curriculum Intent for the Corpus Christi Child
“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire”
St. Catherine of Siena
Our Curriculum is driven by the need to prepare children for lifelong learning. We strive to give every child every opportunity by offering a rich and vibrant curriculum which is ambitious for all learners. Our Christian values (including British values) and school values underpin our curriculum and how it is delivered. Situated on Chestnut Grove, our curriculum journeys are represented by a Chestnut tree, symbolising growth and how pupils develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding which are the building blocks for life.
Holistically, our 6 C's enable us to develop the following virtues in our children.
1. Compassionate… We promise to show kindness and compassion in our relationships and towards the individual needs of our children through our exciting and challenging curriculum.
2. Courageous… We promise to create a loving and safe environment where children are encouraged to find their inner strength, to be brave, resilient and have the desire to try again tomorrow.
3. Conscientious… We promise to deliver exciting and engaging lessons with high expectations that make learning purposeful and motivate our children.
4. Co-operative We promise to empower all children to learn about themselves, the wider world and their responsibilities in order to uphold our strong culture of collaboration with our local community, parish and parents which celebrates the unique and diverse nature of our school community.
5. Curious… We give children time to nurture their curiosity, develop their questioning skills and own their own learning.
6. Creative… We promise to give children opportunities to be imaginative, inventive, take risks, make mistakes and have fun with their learning.
Implementation
Our curriculum encompasses not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but goes beyond the experiences of the classroom to ensure that our children are exposed to the richest and most varied opportunities enabling them to grow, to know more, remember more and equipping them for our ever-changing world. We have high expectations for learning and teaching to ensure pupils acquire the appropriate knowledge and skills to prepare them for the next stage in their school journey. Each subject has its own learning journey outlining the different topics the children will be taught throughout their time at school. Carefully considered skills progressions ensure that the learning is sequenced logically and progressively to meet the needs of all pupils. Classrooms are welcoming, engaging environments that ensure all of our children are included, represented and valued. At the heart of lesson planning are our school values. Each half term we focus on a particular value - these are closely linked to the inspirational figures our school houses are named after as chosen by pupils. This encourages pupils to understand how they can be the best learners, friends and members of our school and wider community.
Impact
Our whole school community work together closely to ensure our school ethos and vision for each pupil are held. Each child understands what it means to be a member of the Corpus Christi community. Our values help them to understand how to be brave, resilient and overcome challenges. They understand how to treat one another, to focus on individual goals and to work as a team and celebrate their own and other’s achievements. We strive to ensure that all pupils are working at age-related expectations and beyond so that they are fully prepared for the next stage of their learning. Pupil’s leave Corpus Christi confident and motivated to succeed in their learning and role in society as citizens and children of God.
